While shopping around last Thursday in the dairy-free cheese section of Whole Foods, I spotted an intriguing container of vegan Parmesan style cheese. My usual go to is Go Veggie! Grated Parmesan Style Topping, but this time, I decided to pick up a package of both Go Veggie!, and Follow Your Heart Dairy Free Parmesan Style Shredded Cheese Alternative.

While the Go Veggie! Grated Parmesan Style Topping is more finely grated into a powder-like form, the Follow Your Heart Dairy Free Parmesan Style Shredded Cheese Alternative is much more similar to thin shreds of cheese.

Now, what to have them with! I decided to add some of these Parmesan style shreds to farfalle pasta with garlic, tomato sauce and a nice helping of black pepper. The combination was phenomenal! The texture was very pleasing and the taste and smell were so similar to the way I remember Parmesan cheese smelling and tasting. While non-vegan friends have told me before that the Go Veggie! Grated Parmesan Style Topping smells way too cheesy, I’ve only heard positive things about the smell, look, and taste of Follow Your Heart Dairy Free Parmesan Style Shredded Cheese Alternative.

In the future I think I will also consider adding this to my homemade veggie pizza!
